Two Airis Coffees Take Home The Bronze!!
We are excited to share with you some great news! In the beginning of September, we submitted a few of our Airis coffees into two categories of the Golden Bean North America Roasting Competition. Airis coffee is our super premium brand of revolving seasonal offerings. It was launched just two years ago. The Gold Bean is the world’s largest roasting competition. This year they received a record level of participation. There were 450 coffee roasters that submitted over 1300 of their most prized coffees to be blindly judged.
This was the first roasting competition that we have ever participated in. While we know our coffees have a great local following, it’s a new experience for us to be able to showcase our Air roasting skills and then be critiqued by industry experts. To get to the final Airis line-up of coffees we cupped 100’s of coffees. We feel each coffee tells an important story of a country, region, or farm. We love them all, so it was tough to decide on what would be our singles. The two categories that we submitted coffees were Espresso and Filter Drip.
We are proud to tell you … We got Bronze Medals in both the categories that we submitted our coffees in. Our Burundi Kinyovu won in the Pour Over Filter Category and our Espresso Vellutata won Espresso (Short Black) Category.
The Burundi Kinyovu is a direct trade micro lot coffee from the Kinyovu Wash Station is an IWCA certified women produced coffee. This has been one of those distinct and unique coffees, but it always wows everyone that tries it. It’s bright, sweet and tropical but also has a nice caramel flavor.
This was the first espresso blend for Airis Coffee. It’s a blend of two medium roasted coffees that to us is “crema of the crop”. Crema Vellutata means velvety cream in Italian. This Espresso blend is sweet, creamy, with balanced citrus. It really is just sunshine in a cup.
